Teaching myself HTML and PHP has enabled me to create several websites.Forexample, in 2002, I designed, programmed and sold the browser-based multiplayerrole-playing game [____].I have also designed a relational database for aboarding cattery that stores information about customers, their cats and anybookings that they make.I have built my own computer and run a web hostinghobby business for three years.This practical experience has given me sometechnical abilities which will undoubtedly be helpful at university.

My part time job at a local petrol station has provided valuable experienceof the workplace and taught me how to work effectively as a member of a team.Ithas also made me organise my studies and private time more efficiently.

Music is important to me and I frequently organise trips (includingtickets, travel and accommodation) for parties of up to ten to gigs andfestivals both in the UK and abroad.For example, I have organised a journey foreight people to 2005’s Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany.My interest in musichas also prompted me to start learning the bass guitar.

I enjoy reading about scientific and technological developments on theInternet and in newspapers and magazines – I find the New Scientist magazineparticularly interesting and I have learnt a lot through my subscription toit.

At university, I hope to deepen and expand my knowledge of computing intoareas which I have no formal experience of studying.For example, I am eager tolearn about artificial intelligence and the mathematical foundations ofcomputing.A computer science degree will provide me with a broad range ofexciting career opportunities and I am particularly interested in using theskills gained at university in either research or industry.

the roots of my strong interest in business can be traced back to my childhood. my father was among the first of china’s new breed of modern entrepreneurs. as a young girl， it was inspirational hearing about his business ventures， and meeting the varied and interesting circle of entrepreneurs. my mother was also involved in business as an accountant， helping him with simple calculations. and so it was early in my life that i hoped i， also， would someday be able to enter the realm of business.
